I have the best job in the world: I get to sit around in my pajamas all day and call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. And then, in my spare time, I get to make fabric art. Every now and then--about once a year or so--I get to write a book--my newest one is Creative Time and Space, due out in October 2009. Writing, schmoozing, stitching--all without having to leave the house--what more could anyone want?

Part II--Art Journal Page Backgrounds

Hooray: I didn't forget! Here's how I do backgrounds for the pages in my journals. I got the idea from Aimee, of course--go here to see her fabulous journal pages. Hers are much more fabulous--I just smush some color around. Ah, color!

Did I really say "laying around"? Yes, I did. As well as "on the 'net." Sheesh. Aliens frequently take over my mouth when I talk. Even as I was saying "laying around," I was going, "Whaaaaaaa?! Intransitive, you gibbering fool!"

And isn't that scary: talking to yourself while you're talking out loud? Shhhhh--don't tell anyone.

[Oh, yeah--sorry about the ugly, no-color background. That's the row of recycling bags, which I didn't notice until too late. I'll try to do better next time--all but two rooms have wonderful walls, and guess which ones I always end up in. . . .]

great tutorial, and that's exactly how i use the stamp pad. you gave me a few new ideas, too, to address those 'gutter' issues when i work in a journal.

i liked the page that said, "it sucked."

Thanks for the lovely tutorial. I appreciate the demonstration of the stamp pads in this way. I never would have though to do that. Because you use such good cardstock your pages don't go too mushy/curly with the added moisture.

Cheers!

Thanks for the tutorials. Makes a lot of sense. Sometimes the blank page IS intimidating. I will add this to my repetoire!
Thanks again!

maybe if I try this, it will get me over making the books and never doing anything with them (and I do LOVE to make books!)

thanks for the videos -- love watching you!!

yeah---I'm inspired to go get a journal and try it out!! I have a sketchbook right now, and I think I'll keep that separate but I've been wanting to do a journal with more color and be able to experiment with visual journalling :)
