My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Etsy Shop Redux

Jesus, I’m exhausted. I’ve been painting and wallpapering and dusting and rearranging the shelves, and . . . .
OK, enough. I’ll bet you’ve read that same little Etsy shop cuteness a bazillion times, haven’t you? Yeah, me, too.
But I actually have spent a huge chunk of time these last couple of days going back through everything in my Etsy shop and adding a lot of new stuff. Because I went out and went through all the artwear in The Fucking Edifice, and I picked out everything I’m not wearing—which would be, duh:  everything stored in the FE—and brought it in for photographing. That’s what we did Sunday afternoon—I put on stuff, and The Ever-Gorgeous Earl photographed it.

There’s more in the shop, but you get the idea.
Yesterday I prepared all the photos, and today I entered it all. Then I went through and lowered many of the prices on the older stuff. It’s ridiculous selling Journal Skirts for anything less than $200—and even that much doesn’t begin to cover all the work that goes into them--but there’s absolutely no sense in having them hang out there, under a plastic bag, in the dark. That’s not what I intended when I made them. I figure surely there’s someone out there, somewhere, who’s roughly my size and has the chutzpah to wear a journal skirt. Surely. I just can’t stand thinking they’re going to hang out there until I’m dead. Most of them have already been in a book or magazine, so there’s really nothing else in their future unless someone WEARS them. I’m keeping my 4 favorites, in case I start wearing them again. But the rest? Sigh. They just aren’t feeling the love.
Take a look. Send your friends.

Rice, your Etsy shop looks just fabulous! All that furniture moving and shelf building really paid off! I wish you good luck, many sales and wonderful homes for your lovely work. I wish they were my size:(

It would be lovely to have something of yours, but again the sizing is wrong for me.

Hmn, I have a fair amount of chutzpah, but I'm not sure if it's enough to pull off a journal skirt!

The Joy hoodie, however, is another matter entirely. If it's still there on friday (payday) it's mine, all mine! Green? Hoodie? Says "Joy?" Perfect! I'm guessing I could fit into it...is it a men's small, or women's? (I'm 5'7, 135)

i think it's a men's, cynjon--i don't remember which section, but i usually buy men's sweatshirts and jackets and stuff: sadly, they're made more sturdily than women's--you can see how it fits me in the photo, and we're pretty close to the same size.

I really love your journal skirts! Could you do a post about the process of making them?

thanks, lulabelle--you can find instructions for all the processes in my youtube videos and in my second book, New Techniques for Wearable Art, and the various columns for Altered Couture.
