I wandered into the living room just now, stopping to open the windows, since it’s finally warmed up after a chilly start. And I looked out there on the empty, cat-less front porch and thought, “Hmmmm. That looks like a manuscript package out there.”
And sure enough. Look at this:
What an amazing surprise. Usually I know ahead of time when one of these is coming, but I haven’t heard from my editor in over a month, since March, and so had no clue. (I figured she was secretly spending all her time with her Favorite Authors. You know.) I wasn’t expecting anything until the end of May.
So this week won’t be just about Free Estimates on roofing and siding (which I’ve been trying all morning to get scheduled; one guy will be here in a little over an hour, meaning I should probably get up and go brush my teeth); it will also be about the Final Author Review, which is my very last chance to check things before the book is shipped away to become, well, A Real Book. I’ve just glanced at a couple of pages and see some comma errors that shouldn’t be there, meaning it’s time to whip out the red pen and re-visit my days as a Thin-Lipped English Teacher.
What a surprise.

can't wait for your new book, rice! it's due out just before my birthday, so it looks like i'll be getting myself a gift ;~)
oh you must be jumping up and down! thank you for the teaser!
So as casting director, Angelina Jolie could never play an English teacher or be seen yielding the red pen.
Wooties!
I hope this means it'll be out sooner? Yes?
It would be really lovely to have it out sooner , rather than later Rice. I'm sure you will turn it around as soon as you are satisfied with it.
Can't wait for that one to come out. Despite my vow to get my books from the library now, I'm going to make an exception.
Hey! I'm finally up to date. I guess I have no excuse now for not getting my butt back to work.
carina, you made both of us laugh--
