My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

A New Home for Garf

ChrisP so very generously took Garf into her life. We took him out to her 10 acres north of town last night. It was hot, and Garf cried and freaked and drooled the whole way, and then he was terrified of her dogs and just pretty much completely freaked out.
As was I.
We took him in his 4 ft. dog crate, so if Christy chooses, she can leave him in there a couple of days until he gets used to things. But that’s no longer my decision:  he’s her cat now, and I cannot micromanage. As is, of course, my wont. I’m all about the control thang and am trying, in my middle age, to learn to Let It Go.
Yeah.
I told The EGE that in some ways it’s easier when they’re euthanized because then you don’t have to worry about them any more. I know Christy takes good care of her animals, and I know Garf has to have a chance to be free. Everything else I just have to let go.

Garf's a lucky cat to have someone care as much as you do. I bet he'll be happy roaming the country side yowling happy cat songs at the moon.

That is a hard decision. I'm sorry you are probably suffering over it, too, but you did the right thing. He'll have a happy home and maybe you can visit.

Ricë, I'm so glad that Christy could take Garf on and give him a different scenario for life. I wish you had sane neighbors!

Walking away, knowing Christy takes good care of her animals is a huge thing!

It will probably be very odd adjusting to the quiet at first. And using different doors!

You've done well, and good for your friend also.

This was a horrid situation and a hard decision and it sounds as though you've arrived at the best solution possible.

I do so hope Garf is going to love his new home, it just might take him a few days to realize how nice all that freedom is...but then I bet he will be happy as a clam. You did a good thing, Miss Rice.

Most people would just have had him euthanized. He's a lucky cat, you're a good person.

And you regain you porch once the pee is cleaned off. Just in time for summer!
