My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

This Week’s Journal Give-Away

Hello, my little chickadees!  Oh, we had a terrific weekend, and I can’t wait to tell y’all all about it. Only, well:  whew.  There’s a veritable ton of stuff I have to do first, from laundry to overdue library books to a run to the bank to fax yet another estimate from yet another contractor, to a trip to the post office and then finishing up this load of dye and going to get more fabric. And dealing with yet ANOTHER jury summons, requiring yet another trip to the courthouse. Good grief.

Whew. I did the Really Rare Thang this morning and went. back. to. bed. Yes! And slept for another hour. I was exhausted.

OK. So what you really came here for: this week’s blank journal:

4

Handmade-by-me bright white paper cover, with—I think, because it’s not by me—dyed pigskin spine with a loop for a charm at the top. Ribbon ties, library pocket inside, bookmark, etc.

5

Heavy text weight off-white pages.

Post a comment, tell me something good, check back on Friday. You know the routine. Thanks!

XO

i can't imagine you having overdue library books! really??

oh, yeah--i ALWAYS have overdue books. years ago, i used to think the money went to the actual library and so was happy to pay it. it goes, instead, to the county's general fund. but i still don't mind--i cheefully pay my fines, and they cheerfully take my money (although sometimes they don't--they let you have some wiggle room).

Okat Rice, I just HAVE to ask: What is up with your judicial system in the US? In Canada, you are "lucky" if you get asked to serve jury duty once in your whole life.

I know someone in California who seems to get asked about 3x a year and that just seems so odd. Is it because you have a higher population and therefore, more crime? Or is it because less people are eligable to serve? Or is your name on some hotsheet of upstanding citizens?

My husband was asked once about 8 years ago and got a deferral because he was the sole breadwinner of our family at the time. I have never been asked. Most of the people I know never have either and that's alot of people!

Anyway, I am dying to know why you guys get called up so darn much.

They really want you to do jury service, don't they? Funny, I wouldn't have had youpegged as having overdue library books (the pile of washing I can understand though - far more important things in life than that). But now you've explained why you have overdue library books it makes perfect sense.
Should I be worried?!

lilainia, i just think they're fucking with me. i've told everyone in the whole town the story of My Sordid Past [snort], so that should really be enough, don't you think? but i think they're just evil. or maybe, since there's no record anywhere of my ever being arrested (my husband doesn't believe it ever happened, officially, and that they just set it up to scare the two most naive teenagers on the planet. if so, it worked.) it's one of those weird confluences of events that just go on and on.

yes, i suppose there are more criminals and trials in the US. and lots of people don't show up for jury duty. maybe y'all have a higher percentage show up, so they don't have to call you as often.

i still think it's just that they want to screw with me. i mean, really: even when i show up, they take one look at me and mentally cross me off their list. i'll never, ever serve on any jury, ever. so what's the point? who knows?

For some good...The spring is here and the goat willow is blooming so now the bumblebees and butterflies can find some nectar... (living up in the Arctic zone these things only happens once a year).

That is very pretty. My boyfriend's niece is graduating next month and taking a trip to Europe. I would love to give her a nice journal to take with her. I went to Europe when I was a teen and I really wish I had made a journal of my travels.

By the way, I did jury duty last year and it was actually very interesting, but I did get paid my regular salary. I work for lawyers so they are very understanding about that!

I was called for jury duty once and when questioned by the lawyers, I sorta folded in on myself and answered in a "push me around and I'll do anything you say" really meek way. They passed.

Me? that day I figured I should maybe change careers and go into acting.

Oh, and that journal is bee-ou-tea-full.

Jus' sayin'

something good to tell? I'm on a blog break but I can't stay away from blogs. Oh, that's a bad one. Hmmm... It is sunshine outside, and I'm going out. Yay! :-)

Loved the video you shared recently , soooo well done and cool!

I admit that I'm not good about using a paper journal, just the blogs I write almost daily, but I'm going on a very special trip in June back to California to visit a very dear friend where we will do all kinds of artsy experimenting and sitting up and talking until we can't keep our eyes open

and well, I'd like to memorialize the trip in a "concrete" way --- my friend is going to be 80 and we may never get this chance again

so, I'd really love to have this very special journal that you hand made to record this special trip in

(PLEASE!!)
