Every afternoon, you should be able to go somewhere and forget everything about the rest of your life and just spend a couple hours hanging out with really cool people who are making stuff and talking and sharing ideas and laughing. Perhaps wine would be involved (it wasn’t, here). Perhaps there would be snacks. Or music. You would get to choose.
I’ve longed for such a community forever and have, at various times, tried to create one, with little success. So you can imagine how thrilling it is when something like this happens.
This is Friday afternoon at one of the groovy new dorms at Reed College in Portland, for Art Fiber Fest. Teesha Moore puts it on with a little bit of help from her husband, Tracy, and her daughters, Tiphoni and Trista.
Theo Ellsworth is a friend of theirs, and Judy Wise teaches at Artfest (among many other teaching venues), which is another of Teesha’s babies.
I sat and stitched happily as Teesha and Tracy talked about the beginnings of alternative art retreats. Then, at some point, I realized I should share this with y’all.
Here you go:

I think one of the things I love the very mostest mostest about living where I do is that we have two daily/weekly get-togethers that focus on various arts. Our friend Jai has daily morning life drawing at his home, and the Sassafrass household has art get-togethers every tuesday, where it's a "bring whatever it is you're working on and sit around and make stuff and eat" type of deal.
Now I just need to be home to take advantage of them!
aieee--i'm so envious!
At the risk of looking like a total spaz, I loved that video; it makes these people, who I admire immensely look like real people.
thanks for the video-I loved it too!

Thanx so much, Rice, for posting this video. You are the best. To be in ONE room with you and all of these wonderful talented folks at one time while all are creating/playing is a dream come true. WOW!! Thanx for taking us there. Sharon
