My god, this woman laughs cuter than anyone I’ve ever seen ever in life. I did not mean to break her. Truly.
The back story: At dinner one night, I’m telling about the way I used to dress, about the 50 dresses I made when I subbed. One of these (all from the same pattern: long, loose, with huge pockets = offended the kids mightily, with the sheer hippie-ness of them all) was red with a print of black-and-white cows. A kid named Spencer in a 9th-grade honors history class, one of those Entitled Kids who think they’re cooler than anything, tried to embarrass me. He asked, “Hey, Ms. Freeman-Zachery, you’re all cowed out! Where’d you get that cow dress?” Everybody is snickering in anticipation.
I looked at him and said, “This? Your momma gave it to me.”
This struck Alma as just the teeniest bit funny. Here’s a mere fragment of it—at one point she had to get up and walk around and hang onto the dining room furniture.
Isn’t she adorable?

Oh, she really is darling! And what beautiful healthy hair...and she creates terrific zines, too.
I adore Alma!
