The Ever-Gorgeous Earl got some great photos this trip, so I’m going to show you some of them in sets—so it won’t be overwhelming: I’ll often skip over a blog entry that has a huge glut of photos just because there are so many. It’s like having a huge wave roll over you.
So. First, some shots from our balcony of the buildings across the way.
In the afternoon we’d try to find a cool hotel bar and have a cocktail, but sometimes we forgot
Or a glass of wine.
This grasshopper was on the outside of the window of the roof bar at the Westin.
Sometimes we’d just sit on the balcony before heading out again for more music.
Here’s me showing him how much I love Skippy (the iPhone):
Street shots: The Jax Brewery. We’ve never been in it, but apparently it’s a hot location for wedding receptions—we followed a wedding party from the St. Louis Cathedral down Decatur at 9 pm one night, the bride and groom and attendants and guests all second-lining down the street, which had been closed off for them. Then they went into the brewery. Sounds icky to me, so I guess I need to go in and check it out. I just remember going to the Coors brewery in Colorado when I was a kid. Boring and smelly, but what do I, a non-beer-drinker, know?
Check out this wall:
and its protection:
I love this stuff—I think it’s sweet potato vine, and I want some:
This year’s poster for Satchmo Summer Fest:
I really like the graphics on this one:
And our annual Praline Taste Test:
Southern Candymakers’ coconut pecan remains our favorite. (This is the best chocolate store on the planet, in our opinion. Check out the Jackson Squares. Omigod.) Runner-up is the praline from the Clear River Pecan Company in Fredericksburg, Texas. It’s the same every year, but you gotta make the effort to check, right?
OK. Lots more photos, but I’ll leave you with these for right now.

Yes, sweet potato vine.
Great pictures. I love those posters!
I sort of live at the other end of the spectrum as you: prefer cool weather, wear fairly boring clothes and have only one faded tattoo but you make me really want to see New Orleans. Hot swampy and full of people, so very not me.
I don't know Rice, seems to me you and Skippy were having a "private" moment!
Sweet potato vine - yes! It comes in a deep purple, too, and two different leaf shapes. I just did a blog entry today on the beauty of colored foliage plants, and give a couple colors of sweet potato vine, if you are interested...
