I thought I’d give those of y’all who show up regularly, patiently waiting for me to get back in gear and say something entertaining, a chance to get a hot-off-the-press copy of the September/October issue of Somerset Studio. It won’t even be on the shelves until September 1st, so you’re really getting a sneak peek here:
I have an extra copy, and it has my interview with photo collage artist Danielle Hession., whose work I think you’ll enjoy. Tell me something good!

Something good....hmmm. Well, my son gets home from a month in the States on Friday and I am over the moon.
I am getting a new sewing macine next week so that I can make Chrsitmas gifts.
I love your blog and your travels this summer have been a wonderful inspiration!
Is that enough goodness, or do you want more? Seriously, thanks for offering the mag...can't get that one over here!
Hope
something good:
made someone's day by doing a random act of kindness. everyone wins all around with a RAK!
Something good: There was a really beat-up dog at my local animal rescue who was waiting and waiting for a family to adopt him. His face was all scarred up so he was passed by in favour of cute puppies. Yesterday he finally got his safe, loving home with a family who really appreciates him and thinks he's beautiful!
Something Good....
The economy has been so bad that I went into a stupor for two months.. who wants to buy art, why should I bother, what will become of art shows, will anyone ever buy my artwork again, will they hire me at the new Walgreens in Dripping Springs, if worse comes to worse... THEN, all of a sudden last week, I had a major breakthrough... After two full months of producing nothing creative, I got up from my computer, with the thought that I don't care if anyone wants to buy my stuff, I feel the need to create.
And I am doing some colorful women with birds.... combination of painted monoprints with etchings of my drawings of women and birds... Go Figure...
To me... it was thrilling to feel inspired again and to not let all the negative political and economic babbling stiffle my ability to be who I am....
and I hope that is something good.
LOL...
hmmm
something good.
well, before breakfast I achieved world peace ... this afternoon I'm going to eradicate all racism and homophobia from our socio-political landscape.
here's my something good..
My color copier that has been fitzing for 6 months and I have bugging my tech to PLEASE FIX IT finally, finally got fixed.
That in itself is good, right?
BUT the really good part? I was able to stay positive and focused and determined to keep the faith that it would work out just fine.
THAT is the best part of
GETTING OLDER! Hissy fits only create more wrinkles in my face.
Staying Calm in a Rising Storm
keeps my blood pressure down and my wrinkles (hopefully) minor.

Hi Rice!!
I haven't dropped by in a while to say hello, but I have been here visiting! I had a pleasant surprize when I picked up a magazine and read an article you wrote - you don't always tell us on your blog when you are being published! To see you doing it here now is cool and I just want to say that I'm probably more likey to go looking for your work if I know that it's out there!
Can't wait for your new book! Where you happy with the final copy?
Cheers, Denise
Okay, here's something funny (and funny = good, right?): Whenever I see your Twitter address "ricefz," I pronounce it to myself in my head "reesafizz." Ha! It just seems to fit you . . .
It's good you have an extra copy and are moved to share the wealth. Good for YOU! 'Tis better to give than to receive - though I wouldn't mind receiving.
I a NOLA girl...that's always something good!! :)
what's good is the creative spirit that you/me/we embody. it just keeps flitting around amongst those of us who choose to listen inspiring more and more creativity.
follow you on FB and love hearing from you...something good, we are all here to share this wonderful experience!
something good:
i am here, typing.
and you are there, reading this.
and the sun is shining
(if not where you are, then *somewhere* out there ;)
and we are alive
and everything is perfect,
just
as
it
is.
and that
is indeed
something good.
something good? I love living in a post George W world and although we have some issues, more and more people are making, talking about, and living with art...life is great!
Something good - I just received news this morning that some of my artwork will be in an upcoming book!
Makes MY DAY!!!
Something Good: Laurie Weeks, Shelley's poems, and food with frosting on it can cure any hormonal dysfunction.
After a three year hiatus I am playing in my art journal again and it is traveling out into my other work :) Very good indeed.
Would love the magazine.
Just looking at the cover makes me think of fall...I'm so ready for the change in weather!
I think you should give it to the person form Dripping Springs--Tex? I love Texas and that is something good. Just wish I were there.
Brenda
Something Good.
I am Tristan Blakeman's assistant, He doesn't know it. But he is gonna need all the help he can get.
Something GOOD: Artists who help spread the L.O.V.E., like YOU!
Something good: Opening the link to your blog and visiting it for the first time!
Enjoying a summer day with my 7yr old daughter and creating art with her.
Looking forward to your new book!
~Theresa
Hi Rice - here are my something goods today:

3. You're having a giveaway
Triple goodness!!!
Something good.....I just bought a new MacBook Pro - that is not the good part (Okay it's wonderful, but that is not my point).
I took my old iBook to my 84-year-old mother and set her up with an email account. Now she can keep in touch a lot better with her 13 children and who knows how many grands and greatgrands.
Sure hope I have her genes.
xoxo
Three Something Goods:
1. Voodoo Doughnuts
2. It's not too hot today
3. I'm working from home
Something good:
I made art today. I had 20 minutes and I finished 2 pages of an altered book that I already love.
something good:
i found an old art journal i had given up on. there were some collages i had started and then i didn't really like. so it's been a year since i looked at this incomplete journal and so i decided to gesso lightly over the collages for backgrounds & it's like a new art journal!
Something good: getting to read your blog with all of your adventures, creative ideas and of course the trials and tribulations.
I enjoy it all. Thanks for taking the time.
Lily

Something good....being able to sit at the computer and read Rice's ramblings after two months of being flat on my back following major surgery! That is REALLY, REALLY GOOD! I have so missed being able to read your blog....major withdrawal here. I keep telling my hubby I need a laptop. If I had had one I could have kept in touch while recuperating. I hope you all didn't have too much fun without me while I was laid up. heehee
Not sure if this is good to you, but Project Runway starts tomorrow night (Thurs) As a former costume designer, I love watching the challenges and the cool sewing the contestants do!
I had the absolute best time with my 92 year old aunt. We went on an "adventure".....she told me stories about her life and my mom's life when they were girls. I am trying to put some pieces together missing in my life. Woo Hoo!
aw, y'all tell the BEST good stuff! makes me laugh, makes me tear up, makes me grin from ear to ear.
ricë-fizz, indeed~~

stampgram, we've missed you! so glad you're back up and around~~
something good....
well I am a student teacher and today I think I finally earned the respect of my Year 9 boys (14 year olds) and they are now being nice to me. Dow did I do this? No, not by yelling or even being a cool teacher. I did this through a discussion about pain and tattooing. They thought I wasn't tough but when I described the 12 inch needles they put in my back to biopsy my liver and kidney 9 years ago, the boys thought that was sufficently gory and cool and they now like me!!!
PS winning would mean not waiting over a month longer than you do in the US for a copy of SS....it takes ages to get to Australia!
Something Good: I'm making art again and USING UP art materials.
The first time in a day I use the "good stuff" is hard, but then I remind myself of that post you wrote and I don't wanna be the sad person with all this STUFF and nothing to show for it!
Here's my good something: I am up at an insane hour with no coffee because I am getting a new knee today! Soon, I will be walking with a spring in my step. Hurray!
