All day Saturday and Sunday there are three stages going at the old US Mint across from the French Market. It’s free, and there are booths where you can buy beer and all kinds of food. We spent our time in front of the Red Beans and Ricely Yours stage. Saturday we visited with a couple who lived “around the corner” in the Quarter. The man had family from Midland. Or maybe Odessa. When they got up to leave, they told us to take their chairs and use them and bring them back on Sunday. I protested, but they said they had more, and if they didn’t see us, we could just keep them (sadly, we didn’t see them Sunday, even though we sat in roughly the same place; so we’ll be hauling these chairs back next year).
Read about the festival here.
This is Yoshio Toyama, from Tokyo, one of the world’s most dedicated fans of Louis Armstrong . He and his wife, who played piano and banjo, donate musical instruments to local schools. He always looks like he’s having the time of his life .
Here’s Gabrielle, who sings and dances with Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers.
Jeremy Davenport, the darling of the Ritz Carlton. We thought he sounded a lot like Harry Connick, Jr., when he sang. Turns out they toured together.
Shamarr Allen, one of my favorites.
Props for Pops Trumpet Tribute that closes out the festival.
This kid can play, jack.
Yoshio again.
