My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

“Very New Orleans”

[It drives me nuts to have to put a book title in quotation marks, as you might be able to imagine. Grrrrr.]

We were in the Artists’ Market, buying a fabulous hat from Kabuki Design Studio, and in the glass case there was a display with a little book that looked like a hand-drawn journal. I squealed and asked to see it—the artist who was working (a doll artist who knows Gypsy Pamela—such a small, small world!) said she thought it was someone’s journal. When she pulled it out, though, it turned out to be an actual book:

book

They didn’t sell them there, so I pulled out Skippy (aka, the iPhone—and no, I’m not going to keep explaining who Skippy is, so relax) and took a photo with the amazon.com app, and it sent the info, and I bought a used copy while I was paying for my hat. Which, let me tell you, is just cooler than anything.

[If they had sold the book, I would have bought it from them—I take very seriously my job of supporting the city’s economy, let me tell you.]

Anyway, the little book arrived today, and it’s just delightful. Go here to see some of the pages or to order a copy. Or, if you’re busy supporting the economy of your own city, call your local indie bookstore and see if they can order it for you.

If you love New Orleans, you’ll love this little book. OK, I have to use the word. I’m sorry, but:  it’s so CUTE!

Eeeek. I scared myself. But it’s still a great little book.

Turns out there are more of these: Charleston, Washington and California. They are all charming.
