Podcast with Debra Rapoport from Advanced Style

Ari Seth Cohen's Advanced Style Blog is one of my favorite places to hang out, bar none. Can you imagine how excited I was the day I stopped by and came across a post about his visit to Debra Rapaport?

Oh. My. I was entranced. This is a woman who knows how to DRESS!

And I immediately began searching for a way to meet her. Finally I left a comment for Ari, and he put us in touch. And Monday we talked.

Debra has had a fabulous life, indeed. She taught art at the University of California at Davis, and her work has been shown in museums and galleries. You can see some of her pieces in Artwear: Fashion and Anti-Fashion--

Go here and here to see her wonderful videos, the ones that made me determined to track her down.

And then sit back, relax, and listen to Debra talk about Life:

what happened that you couldn't access it, angela? did you come here? or try at libsyn.com? that worries me--it does fine when i go to my blog and click on the player, so i thought it was fine, but that might not mean there's not something i need to tweak. eeeeee--i hate that i don't know EVERYTHING about this. i'm so sorry it didn't work for you--

Nothing appears at the end of your post, where you write, "listen to Debra talk about Life:" - I'm assuming there is something else there for me to click on to get to the podcast. Right?

I tried it twice, once letting your entire blog load, and once selecting just this post. It might just be our computer . . . Technology drives me loony. Love it/hate it. But I'll keep trying, cuz you and Debra are worth it.

Fabulous podcast! Thank you so much for this. I just turned 53, and this is exactly what I need right now.

happy 53! me, too!

i'm so sorry this didn't work for you. i have no idea what the problem is--i checked it on the laptop (safari browser) and the iphone, and it worked fine. i adjusted it a little so the little bar is up closer to the end of the post--easier to find, in case that was the problem. thanks for letting me know it didn't work for you--i'll keep checking.

I know this is going to look like I'm stalking you, but I just wanted to let you know that it looks like you fixed the problem. The podcast icon came up in the post right away this time.

Thanks again. Debra is so inspiring.

You are Debra were great. Lots of great advice. OMG!! As I was listening to your podcast, Debra talked about ME!!!! I can't believe it. I was the one who was the caregiver, eating comfort foods and was wearing the sweats.
Just wanted to tell you the podcast was the best yet. I will be listening again.

I absolutely love this woman! Debra is so stylish and so much herself. I always say that you can't be yourself if you try to be like others. I love, love, love her! Thanks for the podcast and the videos.

On a barely related note, I saw this post and the photo of the lady earlier in the day and thought "huh. Wouldn't it be interesting if people wore really avant garde art dolls as jewelry or garment embellishments?"

My prayers were answered, sort of. A minute or two ago I visited that blog I'm ashamed to visit, the one which ridicules the garb of WalMart visitors, and there was a photo of a fellow wearing a naked Ken doll around his neck.

Awesome.

I have listened to this podcast 4 times in a row and by far this is the most interesting, inspiring and stimulating interview I've ever heard. My mind is going off like fireworks. Everything she had to say had Aha! moments going off for me, seconded with "that's so true!" exclamations, and followed with deep pondering on how this resonates in my life choices and how I simply must begin to live even more fearlessly than I try to now. I am left thirsting for more...I said before that she is a powerhouse of a woman and now I believe that even more. A book could be made on her alone! I am in love with the concept of the Advanced Style blog, as I am a firm supporter of treating those who are older with respect, dignity and most of all admiration! I've always been told I have an old soul and truth be told I get along better with people who are much older than I am. Being 28 my DH is 42 and my friends are mostly 35+. Perhaps being an only child surrounded by adults all the time played a role in it but I think I was just born this way! Ari is definitely onto something and I can't wait to see what you two ladies cook up together, either way I know it will be just fabulous!

Your most exuberant, contagious, reach-through-the-wires PRESENT guest yet, for me.

This is the best pod cast you've done. You asked the right questions she had the best answers.

Thanks!

Ricë, THANK YOU for this excellent podcast. Bonafyde, though almost double your age, I too experienced many "aha" moments throughout this wonderful interview! Though I'm late to the party, I'm planning to listen to this again and again -- it's just THAT good.

What a treat to find you and your work, Ricë. I am looking forward to reading the archives and anticipate savoring many moments of inspiration.
