Color Change

I tried to ignore the little voice telling me to change the color here, but it kept nagging at me and nagging at me. For some reason, that voice had decided the blog was too hard to read--to much contrast, too much a strain on the eyes. I was going to go gray with the background but then went, "Aieeeee!" I couldn't handle the gray and off-white. Restful, maybe, but b-o-r-i-n-g and institutional.

I tested out some various colors, and this one seems OK to me. Please let me know what you think--not the aesthetics, but the comfort. The ease of reading. How do your eyes like it? I can't live with start black text on a white background, I don't think; but I can make it more viewer-friendly.

So whaddaya think?

I do like the colors, but the orange is still hard on my eyes.

L o v e the purple. The pink type is a bit too bright for my eyes - creates a bit of a visual blur.....

rob, i'd move in and sit with my head tilted back, admiring the view!

thanks, y'all. yeah, the pink type does kind of make your eyes twing, doesn't it? hmmmm.

this is tolerable.

But I read in stark black and white thru google reader.

Love the purple. The pink dances a bit.

Like the white on purple, but the orange and hot pink flash a bit. How about black or dark blue for the sidebar type?

I like the purple and white for ease of reading, although I'm wondering if a really light gray would be easier on the eyes for the type color.

I also like the bold lime green type against the purple. It's bright and happy and also seems easy on my eyes.

Word verification is "poottlea" - that makes me smile too!

The white on purple reads great, but the pink and orange fonts don't work very well for me ... they seem to either blend in or vibrate. How fun to try out new colors!

like the purple, but the orange and green are a little too neon-ish against the purple. the white text on black was hard to read, so this is better. i tend to scroll my cursor over white text anyway to make it easier to read. now it's blue text on white, lol
you gonna try something else now, or just let this sit for a while to see what kind of feedback you get? i do like the color combo's, but for me, at my age and with bifocals, it's all about making things easy to read, sigh ;)

OK, I'm going to be the lone dissenter here. The black was hard on the eyes sometimes. True. But now the blog is overwhelmed with the purple. (And I'm a purple girl-love it) I think the more neutral color idea is the right direction. Maybe just not this color. I liked the color on the blog entry headings and other stuff. It made them stand out-which is what they are supposed to do. Now there's sort of a color tussle going on.
'Course knowing you......grin....

I didn't mind the black, but like the purple. The colored fonts however are quite distracting to my eyes. Not a pleasant read as they jump around while you're on the text. Can't wait to see what you try next!

I will be the odd man out here. Being a low vision person I find it even harder to read. But, I will endure as it is your creative vision and I still enjoy your words.

i'm so sorry, cody. i wonder if it would be easier for you on something like google reader, where it's just black and white? do they let you choose settings there, i wonder? i know nothing about it, but it might be worth checking out.

Wow! I was so happy looking at the purple and lime green I had to go back and check where the pink and orange were. Those two are, let's just say, a bit vibrant. But, there's so little of the pink and orange, it doesn't bother me. The purple is fabulous. I know. Not about esthetics. I like reading it, too. Then, I'm a sucker for color.

it's harder than the black to look at, and i don't like black. when the background and font dance around, i'm not going to spend much time on a website. i'm sure you can find a combo that works well that's not plain old plain old.

I love the purple and white but the green is difficult for me to read--it kind of bleeds into the purple or something unattractive and hard on my eyes. The black and white didn't bother me but this (the purple and white)does seem more restful.

Love this!!!!! I think purple with a hint of green and orange goes well!!! The text now is so much easier to read. It *has* to have orange on it somewhere!!!!

I love the new colors. They're much easier to read, and I think the green and orange make it fun. :)

I had been reading your posts in my RSS feed. This combination makes it much easier for me to read your posts on your blog. Thank you!

I found out a few years ago that there can be dramatic differences in what a person sees when they click on a blog depending on what internet browser (and version) they use.

I mostly read on Feedly (magazine like interface that piggybacks on google reader on Firefox) but coming over here and reading white on purple is definitely easier than when it was white on black!

I love the new colors! White text on purple is so much easier to read, thank you. I had to skip the longer entries because my eyes would hurt if I read the white on black for too long. The bits of green, orange and pink are a little eye candy and not hard to read at all.

Since you're tweaking, have you considered altering your banner? Your picture is proportionately big and requires scrolling as soon as your blog loads on the screen. Banners are usually not so tall in size. BTW, I'm not criticizing your lovely portrait. It's just the height of the image....

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I hate reading white on black blogs; it's so hard on the eyes. It's a testament to how much I love yours that I kept reading anyway...

THis looks great--and Much easier to read. I've been following your blog for a month or so and each time I'd open it up, I'd hear myself think, woah! black is a little intense and hard to read. Thanks.

I find the purple much more difficult to read than the black--a darker color would be easier.
