C. Pohl, I still need your mailing address. Soon, please.
Just in case any winners of recent give-aways are wondering, I haven't mailed out anything yet. Nothing. Nada. I determined that I would cut way, way back on the trips to the PO. I hate going so much, and it takes so much time, esp. this time of year. And it's filled with people snorking and sneezing, the kind where people don't even pretend to cover their noses and mouths. You know you and I are too busy to have time to get sick from the germs they're spreading on every surface.
So I said to myself, "Self, let's wait until we have everyone's addresses and have everything ready to go, and then we can make one large trip. Isn't that a great idea, Self? If we're really lucky, maybe The EGE will have a day off and will volunteer to do it for us!" (He doesn't mind going because he always sees people he knows and gets to visit.) Great idea!
Well, we thought so. Alas, it's taking forever. I'd get a batch together but then would be waiting to get an address from one last person, and then, by that time, it was time for another give-away and time to collect more addresses, and by the time I got those, well. And he never has a day off from subbing because teachers call him ALL the time, even when we're out of town. We're in New Orleans, and teachers are calling early in the morning, wanting him to fill in for them.
So now I'm waiting on just the one, but by then, it will be time to wrap and mail an out-of-town gift, so--
Well, honestly, who knows when things will get mailed? I'm sorry, but what's the point of my always being on time with things when no one else worries about it? Being prompt in a non-prompt world is to trot down the path to the land of teeth-gnashing and hair-pulling, and there's way, way too much fun stuff to do to keep visiting that world. It makes me a tiny bit crazy.
So everything will go out when it goes out. Sorry you're having to wait, esp. those of you who so very promptly sent me your addresses. In 2011, I'm going to figure out another way to do this. When my publishers send me things to give away, there's going to be a way to do it that doesn't just irritate the fire out of me. I love sharing, I really do. But, man!
OK, no more whining. Time to go sew. Just wanted to let you know why things aren't arriving in your mail boxes as quickly as I'd hoped.

New reader to your blog, but I had a suggestion to the mailing thing. Back in the day when my Post Office was a haul across town, I used to only do my PO runs twice a month on the same days. Anything that wasn't a bill payment (my schedule was set around my rent and car payments) would have to wait for the next run. Might a similar thing work for you?
(...and in a total fangirl moment, thank you for writing "Creative Time and Space". It's been incredibly useful in helping me get back on my creative feet.)
That's sucks that everyone has to wait on one person. Maybe you should set a deadline for getting an address to you..say 3 or 4 days. If someone is late getting their address to you, then they have to wait for your next post office trip.
Hey, no worries about mailing on my end! Such a harsh reality when you realize that people will never live up to the expectations we set. Like promptness, courtesy, and kindness are setting the bar too high, right? I've decided that the people we have to wait for, apologize for, etc. are on a power trip and this their way of saying f*ck you, my time is more important than yours. Oops, better get off my soapbox before I get pushed!
Rice, relax and sew. I am the first one to grab the antibacterial wipes at the store. My cart glows from its cleaning. I understand not wanting to pick up a bug. I could go off on a rant, but it doesn't change behavior of others. I am tired of the "me first" mentality that I see too often. Let's all go back to kindergarten and learn some manners. Have fun sewing.
Doesn't the PO do pick ups? It might be easier to print the shipping labels at home, stick it on the box, and have the mail-person pick it up. It would mean you'd have to invest in a postal scale. . . but it would also mean you never have to go to the Post Office again. :)
I paid my 13 yo Granddaughter and her friend to go stand in line at the post office for me. Want to borrow her?
UPS is actually easier in my location. They sell stanps too which I didn't know until recently.
