Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Fabulous Present from Sue Cox

Sue said she saw this outfit and thought of me.
I can't imagine why--can you? Hee--because it's perfect, of course! The colors are just fabulous, and she knew my brain would be buzzing with ideas for this. I think it's a costume--not intended as an actual item of clothing to wear over and over. So I'm thinking there's some altering in the future--I haven't gotten that far yet. I laundered it to soften it up, and now I'm thinking about what might come next.

Thank you, Sue!

We need a photo with the outfit on, then I can imagine stuff.

My altered clothes aren't very exciting yet. I think it might be because I am not excited by what I am buying. It will be interesting to see what ensues. At the moment I am kind of making stuff that I will just wear around at home. Better than what I usually wear but nothin' special.

I am excited about the dresslets that I bought fabric for.

The style, fabric and colors remind me of clothing that women in India wear.

I look forward to seeing the wonderful creations you will make with them.

While I'm thinking of it, have you ever seen Kantha Embroidery from India? It uses a simple running stitch. Older, gently worn saaris are layered together thick enough to recycle into a quilt.

The kantha embroidery designs are stitched over the top of the quilt. Examples are easy to find on Google Images. Very colorful, creative and inspiring for future projects, perhaps?

HI believe that's a salwar kameez dupatta or Punjabi Suit, an Indian outfit. Not a costume at all, just regular clothing, if you're Indian. Of course, it's a particularly fetching and festive one. I love the metallic paint!

I didn't mean to say that this is a costume because of the way it looks; it seems like a costume because the fabric is stiff (even after laundering) and it's not very sturdily sewn together--it wouldn't stand up to heavy wear or repeated laundering. That's what I meant--I know it's a traditional Indian garment, but I just don't think this particular one was meant for everyday wear.
