My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Roz's Portrait Party

Roz Stendahl is without a doubt one of the most creative people I know, and I know kind of a lot of creative people (lucky me!). Y'all should be hanging out at her blog all the time, getting ideas and taking notes and being amazed, but just in case you haven't had a chance to zip over there lately, I wanted to send you to read about the Portrait Party Roz organizes every year. This past week, twenty-eight artists created a book of hand-drawn portraits in an hour and a half (more or less), and it sounds like just the best time ever. Go here and read about it. Now wouldn't that be fun to do with your own creative community? Even an online one would be fun--challenging, but you could figure it out, right?

Oh:  and while you're there, please wish Roz a happy birthday--today's her day, and I think she's suffering from Cakelessness--none of her all-time favorite cake until Saturday, which is surely a hardship beyond words (I've had some of this Chocolate Chocolate Cake, and I understand completely).

Happy birthday, Roz! And what a cool party!

Hi Ricè...I always start my day by looking to see what you are up to and then go check in at Roz's blog. Never had the blog reading bug until I found the Voodoo Cafe...love it. Now I'm hooked. I've purchased both of your latest books and am reading them on my Ipad....trying to figure out how to get off the merry-go -round and do what I was meant to do....

thanks, marcie! monica, i went to her blog, but i couldn't find anything about a dress made from a suit--that would have been cool to see, but i couldn't spend more time looking for it--i read a little and gave up.

Ricë, thank you for getting the word out about the Portrait Party. It was crazy. (I should have saved the cookies for the end—I made chocolate chip cookies, the best batch ever! But I don't think people need sugar before concentrated drawing.)

I've made a video that I'm going to post on my blog about sewing the book, and I'm also making a how-to-booklet with templates that I'll post in February, all in the hope that more folks will do this because, 1. it's fun, and 2. it's fun, and 3. you need to always be drawing, and 4. it's fun.

I appreciate your concerns about cake, because I shared them. But I did get cake on Saturday (with ice cream) so I was a very happy person indeed! All in all it was a damn fine b-day.
