Here are a couple. The first one is from New Year's Eve, when we went to a dance at the Stardust in Odessa. We had a great time dancing, but it was a pretty pitiful New Year's Eve dance--no band, just a DJ, not very many people because the club shut down for a long time and didn't renew its liquor license, so all you can get is beer and wine (and water and juice, which is what we drink if we drink anything at all, which we don't, usually, because we never sit down), so lots of people never came back. There were a lot of younger people (this place plays old-time classic country--we're talking Merle Haggard here) who came out and got drunk and loud and were smoking like crazy people. We probably won't go again, as the smoke was outrageous. Ah, change. Everything changes, but sometimes that sucks.
Anyway, here's what I wore:
The red skirt is one of the ones I bought at Dillards years ago. They were $89.99, and I told The EGE that when they went on clearance for less than $20, I was buying one in every color. Months later, we walked through, and they were on sale for $19.99. I said, "I'm going to get one," and he--enabler that he is--reminded me I said I was going to get one in every color. I ended up getting a lot of these and over-dyeing them. I think this one was kind of an anemic red at first. The black skirt came from a boutique in the French Quarter years ago. It wasn't on sale, but every time I wear it, I think of our trips there, so it's totally worth whatever it cost.
The bustier was 50 cents at a garage sale--I bought both of them, thinking I'd remove the hardware to use on something else, but once I washed them and tried them on, I realized I could do stuff with them. The shrug was on sale somewhere last year--less than $20. The necklace--got that way cheap at vendors' night at Art and Soul in Hampton last year--you may remember seeing all of that bling back then when I bought it. Rhinestone earrings = $1 a pair.
The boots--my favorites. I wear these dancing all the time. My brother-in-law Putty bought them for $5 at a garage sale, back when the three of us used to go on Saturdays. He bought them for the straps with hearts on them--he was going to put them on his dancing boots--this was back when he used to go dancing. He didn't even want the actual boots--they didn't fit him. But they fit me! And I whined and nagged and cajoled until he finally gave in and let me have the boots. Yay!
The other outfit--see, this is why we take all the photos at Starbucks. No matter how he sets the light on his camera, the colors of the walls change the colors of whatever he's shooting unless he sets up the big lights and stuff, which is not going to happen unless it's for a magazine or something.
The sweater was a pale pink thing from Goodwill--less than $2. I dyed it and changed the buttons, and it's one of my favorites. The jeans--Tommy Hilfiger boyfriend jeans, less than $2. Too short, so I tapered the bottoms and wear them rolled. The belt you can barely see--leather, $1 from the Salvation Army, with a leather buckle with a Zuni design--it was my dad's. The scarf--$5 on the street in Manhattan. The shoes. Ah, the shoes. They were new and not on sale--bought at the mall in Phoenix last year at Art Unraveled. I bought a bag on clearance and was walking through the store, and The EGE said, "Hey, look! These match your bag!" As indeed they did. And the salesman was all like, "Aren't you lucky to have a husband who's supportive like that?" And I snorted and said, "Yeah, it's easy when we keep our money separate and he doesn't buy my clothes."
So there are some outfits. Next: shots of me altering the brown leather coat. I hope to get those up later today. If not, feel free to nag me. I'm trying to get the coat itself finished so I can wear it--

Your wardrobe posts make me want to learn how to dye things. In addition, I love that dress. It's GORGEOUS!
I have wardrobe envy...I LOVE that bustier!
FIFTY CENTS! (sorry; I couldn't resist)
Love the outfits. I also like the hanging stars and wonder if I should do something like that for some of our entryways. Hmmm...
You look fabulous in both outfits. And the boots! No wonder you wanted those, I think they're the nicest I've seen.
Thank you! I hope my brother-in-law doesn't read this and suddenly remember these boots~~
Possession is nine-tenths of the law! I love the way you make things your own. And how do you find so many great deals?
the main thing about finding so many great deals is that it's been over the course of decades--i have shoes and jackets i've had for over 20 years.
You look gorgeous in that outfit! wow!
Love those boots, I gotta get some cowboy boots.
What kind of buttons did you put on the sweater? (maybe a closeup).
Oh, you gave me permission to nag, you will be sorry you did that, lol.
the buttons are just plastic the same color as the sweater. although i don't love plastic, i'll use those buttons to replace the really tacky plastic ones on garments. if it's something i think i'm going to love, i'll cover buttons in some cool fabric, often dyed flannel. i didn't think i was going to love this sweater (i'm wearing it right now). guess i should give it some cooler buttons, huh?
Love both outfits, totally! You rock everything, Ricë, and always make me so envious of your refashioning tactics!
Here's a question from out of left field...you and EGE have been married for 33 years and you keep your money separate? How does that work? Sorry for being nosy, can't help but wonder about things like that when I hear folks mention them.
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
Both outfits show off your talent for colors and layering but the dancing outfit really might be my all time favorite.
Darla
YES YES for the red skirts, boots and all!
