Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Come Hang with Me at CreateMixedMedia.com

I've got another blog, The Creative Life, devoted to all things mixed media over at CreateMixedMedia.com, and I'd love for y'all to come over there and visit me. I don't know how they're receiving comments--I'm not actually a real employee, so I have to use my own email address and stuff and haven't been getting any comments. So if you'd like to tell me stuff, you might send me an email (at the address on my profile page) or just come back over here and post a note for us. I'd love to hear what you'd like to hear about--what topics related to mixed media, people you'd like us to interview, things you'd like us to research. Cos you know me--without some input from y'all, I'm just going to be ranting about the stuff in my own head, and that's going to get old in a hurry.

This other blog is really cool for me because I can talk about art-related stuff there and then spend more time here talking about the other things I love--mostly altering everything in my house and the stuff I do and the people I get to talk to and OMG! I almost forgot! I have the coolest thing to tell you about, but I'll do that in another post so it has a different title and stuff. In the meantime, please zip over to CreateMixedMedia.com, where my topic today is "Is This Your Year to Become a Draw-er?" And then zip back over here and give me ideas for stuff you'd like to read/hear/talk about.

And then come back later for the coolest thing that happened and a chance for you to buy a book you thought was long, long out of print. Yowza!

And thanks a bunch!

OK I saw it,,, the other site,,,How Very COOL! Love it and will be one site I visit daily. I'm glad I found it -- I love doing mixed media from Jewelry to collage and 3-d stuff and even sewing. I am excited about my new sewing machine and can't wait to see what I'll do with that. And as for your drawing I'm like you - I have all these wonderful sketch books but haven't filled them yet,,But I WILL DRAW!!! Lori B.

Rice, wonderful article and I know you wrote it just for me. Commenting is easy, just log in, and comment. I agree with the previous commentors, the page is rather busy visually. Have a great day and thanks for the drawing nudge.

see you there! said...

This just happens to be my "Draw-er" year. I bought a sketchbook and have been working in it.

Just a tiny grumble... there is so much good info on the site but I find it a little confusing or overwhelming or... something... to navigate. I know it isn't your site and it IS worth the work to get the info but I don't go as often as I might.

Thank you. But the other side needs to punch up the design and color; because after leaving your website I start yawning. Can you please give them some help with the graphics and color???

I like what you are posting on Mixedmedia.

But I am more interested in the clothes refashioning, not so into mixed media. I hope you will keep posting your clothing stuff.

Any visuals on all that dyeing that you did?

I really liked your book review of
"Collage Playground".... I have the book but so far I've only looked at the pictures. You have inspired me get it out again and actually READ it this time!
As for blog posts... I like to read artist profiles especially why they do the work they do.

i actually like the format. it's like reading the newspaper. i'm not going to read every single article at one time so i pick and choose. i'm not finding much that doesn't interest me on the new site. the only thing i haven't tried is bookbinding but there are still interesting articles in that category. i've always been inspired by books and buy about 3 a month,so the book reviews are great for me. i hadn't seen the book by kerin gale and that one is right up my alley. i love to read anything about how an artist works, from inspiration to technique. i'm already seeing a lot of my favs on the site. then there are artists like jessie reno that i wasn't familiar with until i read about him on your blog first. he's fun to watch. i'm so glad that jewelry making is included but i like it all. i am a draw-er too. i will think about topics or techniques that i might want to see in the future. i just had to jump in with my 2 cents while i had a chance.

I've been to the site a few times. I like reading about new books, and artist profiles. I also like learning about new techniques I can apply to my journals or jewelry.

The site is a bit jumbled in appearance, but is still fun to cruise around in.

Anyway, your blog was great, even if I'm one of those people who already knows how to draw...and does so as often as possible. ;=}

Oh, and the secret word I had to type in was "bultrop." I like it. Next time someone says something crazy or unbelievable, I'll shout, "Bultrop!" LOL

I love "bultrop." I'll be yelling it, too~~
