Not bright orange--you'll never get rid of the tan unless you bleach it or use color remover, and where's the fun in that? For me, dyeing is about seeing what colors I can create.
I was going to do some stitching all over it to sort of anchor the lining better, but I quickly decided that this isn't going to be one of those lovingly embellished pieces but, rather, something I wear all the time and don't want to worry about. When I tried it on, I suddenly felt all Columbo, rumpled and spy-ish. The EGE whispers, "Secret Squirrel, Secret Squirrel."
I replaced the buttons with some I covered with fabric I already had.
The lining wanted to hang out of the sleeves a little (it said to machine wash, but apparently they didn't take into account a slight shrinkage when they said that). So I stitched it in place, trying to copy the stitching in the coat. The two rows of stitching around the end of the sleeve are mine, done by hand. The other, on that thing--what's that called? Like epaulets for sleeves? That's what was on the coat already. It was fun trying to match embroidery floss to their thread--I could have sewn it on the machine but couldn't have gotten the chunkiness of the stitching.
I love how it matches my hair. At least it matches my hair this week--next week, not so much (how I wish I could make my hair orange and have it STAY orange, let me tell you).

I love the coat!!! What a great orange. I wish I could wear orange but I look sick. I have thought of having pink near my face and the middle of something orange so I could wear it. Such happiness.
Yes please, tell me how you do your hair. I wouldn't mind purple or blue.
I would love to see samples of the different khakis before and after.
Sorry--no purple or blue. It's Loreal HiColor, and it comes in copper (which is this), magenta, and red. It's not supposed to be this bright, and it's supposed to be only highlights. I put it all over and leave it for 45 minutes. You gotta experiment and be willing to make mistakes with your hair--and most people aren't. Aren't we funny about our hair, mostly? Very serious about it.
Photographs of different colors of khaki would be hard to get--photographing accurate colors is SO hard--if we had one of each all at the same time, then we could photo them next to each other and compare that way.
I'm with Zom. I wish I could wear orange, but it's a disaster on me—same with yellow, peach, etc.
That coast looks great on you, though.
Rice: I actually had a raincoat just like that one; only mine was dark green and I loved it.
When I got tired of it, it lived in my closet for many years. My Aunt would wear it when she traveled to visit me, so I never got rid of it. :)
Said Aunt is now 94 but no longer travels, and alas the coat is now traveled onward.

The comparison photo of the khakis would be fantastic.
I think I will wait a while before dying my hair purple or blue. I might wait until it goes white. It is about a quarter grey now and I want to keep my illusion of dark hair a while longer. I wish I had those fantastic white streaks some women have.
A woman should never merely wish about her hair. A woman should just DO IT with her hair. In a small town in Wisconsin, when I was in junior high (I'm 62 now; you figure it out), my mother dyed her hair pink. She looked great. Very Marilyn Monroe. She nearly caused a couple of car accidents.
My hair is now salt-and-pepperish gray and I love it. The only think I ask my hair person is to never, ever give me an old lady cut. And she doesn't, bless her heart.
The only thing that really ages us is gray/white roots showing under the dark dyes. Ick!
I love your ORANGE spy coat with a passion!
