My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

What I'm Wearing in the Studio Today. Brrrrrrr.

Nope, this is not the Exciting Post--I'm still trying to get to that. But in my on-going efforts to give you more eye candy and to say "Yeah-I-can-too!" to Zom, who thinks maybe I can't use the self-timer on my camera (and, gee, what would give anyone THAT idea? huh.), here are two photos taken just now. By me.

Just FYI--it's 28 degrees here today (the sun's out but not doing its work), and the office is on the north side of the house and not well insulated at all (added in 1987 by the young couple who lived here before we moved in, and let's just say they were NOT contractors by trade, shall we?). So I have on many layers and am not necessarily this chunky In Real Life. OK?
So here I am, gritching about the cold. Everything I've got on is thrifted except socks, undergarments, and the Danskin leggings--I've had those for years and wish I could find some in colors at a reasonable price. (Years ago I did buy a bunch of their capri tights on clearance in white and dyed them--but I want the long version, too). Two pair of socks, see?
The skirt, sweater, and vest--each about $2 or less. The skirt was green, and I overdyed it with gold to get a funkier, less apple-y green. The vest (cotton) was a muted raspberry--I put it in hot pink dye with a little fuchsia. The cotton cardigan, from Talbot's (whoever they are--that's what the tag says, and it sounds vaguely familiar) was a dingy white, very ugly. Bright orange dye took care of that (deep orange + golden yellow + tiny bit of fuchsia). I dyed the orange socks (they were white for a year or so, and then when they got dingy, I dyed them orange). The fuchsia ones are that weird acrylic stuff--I buy them on clearance to wear as over-socks.

We're going to have to work on this whole taking-photos-of-myself thang. Too much cropping involved.

Well done.

I am being challenged by self-timed photos. My DH could not be convinced to take any photos so it is all up to my timer.

I was taking 'before' photos of stuff I want to refashion yesterday. Mostly they were blurred. I was standing really far back trying to stop the camera from distorting my thighs into looking really big (I am sure that is the camera! lol).

And all my shots have the same background of messy computer desk. It is the only place with good light.

Ricë, your color sense never fails to amaze and excite me. I wanna be like you when I grow up!

Because of the colors in your room your outfit could be considered camouflage. Looks great!

It's currently 4° here in Ohio, wanna swap? I ask myself every year why I continue to live here...

I'm now wearing thick sweatpants, thick socks and slippers, a hoodie, and I have a blanket on the back of my chair.

I picked up a portable heater for around $10 at the Dreaded Walmart, and it fits nicely on my desk but it's pretty loud, and probably wouldn't be a good idea for you and the cats. Then again, it is Texas so the pricey non-flammable monstrosities probably wouldn't be a justifiable purchase. Tip: cut the fingertips off of an old pair of thrifted gloves. Great for working when it's chilly out.

Brent, beware the heater! The one I wrote about last week was a $10 heater from the Dreaded Wal-Mart, and you heard what happened with it (in case you didn't: it started to melt the plug, which I noticed only when I smelled something funny. No extension cord, no putting-the-cord-under-a-rug, none of the dangerous things you know not to do: just a very, very dangerous thing to have in your house. I tossed mine; please be careful with yours.)

Leave it to you to look colorful and adorable even when you're not trying. This makes me want to shoot myself.

It does look like camo, doesn't it? Ha! Wonder if I sit really still if the cats will think I'm furniture. Oh, wait: they already do~~

HUE has some denim leggings, REAL WARM. Yeah, they're about 25 bucks, but again, they're warm. I can't wear them in the summer time. And, I just saw some nice leggings, seemed warm too, at jc penney here in Austin, they were having a clearance sale, and the price was somewhat between 5 and 10 dollars. Check for department stores, they're clearing some winter garments, cause we're past the middle of the season! I've been keeping myself warm with this extra thick hand knitted Peruvian wool jacket, I bought in Mexico a couple of years ago. There's a Peruvian market that visits each year for the winter time, so cheap it upsets me, their work is so underestimated. Anyways, love your skirt!
