My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Podcast with Kat O'Sullivan

Oh, my. Oh, oh, my. When I first saw these
{All images are from Kat's Etsy shop and used with her permission}

that's all I could say, over and over. See?

Then I found out that Kat was also a world traveller, once had a complete make-over on Jenny Jones (wherein she gave up her green mohawk), and had followed the Grateful Dead on tour. Been to Burning Man, hitchhiked across continents~~well, you get the idea: a really fascinating person making really fabulous artwear. And then recently someone (I think it was Kathy, but dang if I can find the note--I'm *so*sorry!) suggested I talk to her. Well, duh--why hadn't I thought of that? Because I need y'all's help, obviously. So I contacted Kat and we set up a conversation. I won't even tell you how I called her on the wrong day because I forgot which day we'd scheduled it. Yiiiii. Yeah, it would be scary except I've never had a memory to lose.

And so here she is. She talked to me sitting in her bus--up there in the photo--in a parking lot, hiding from someone circling the bus, surely wanting to know more about who was driving it and why it was filled with sweaters.

Here's her Etsy shop, and here's her website, where you can dig around and find stories about her travels.

Enjoy!

Where can we see her sweaters?

Thank you, Monica--I would have sworn I included the links, but they surely weren't there. They are now. Sorry about that--

Yes, it was me. So glad you were able to make the connection. She's a remarkable woman - she reminds me a bit of my daughter, which makes me feel quite old, but proud. Now I'm saving up for a sweater. Just beautiful work.

I saw that first photo and about choked on my own spit -- it's like someone opened up a shop just to stock your wardrobe! Or maybe a really fun movie set wardrobe. Cool.

Thank you for the podcast of Katwise! I love her sweaters (have one) and enjoy seeing her new ones disappear in minutes on ETSY! She sounds like a cool person and is living life like we all should: it is not the destination but the journey.

ahhh the main benefit of youthfulness: Boundless energy.

Her craft is off the chain.

She doesn't have to set goals as I'm sure her name will become a brand name.

I can't imagine people not understanding what's involved in Full Time art work. Seems reasonable that the more you produce the more customer service you'll need to provide....mmmmm

HI Nancy-

I want to ask Kat to consider having a Festival of wares on her property with booths and amazing craftswomen and clinics and shared conversation about making and selling and trading and being the best artisan/ business person you can be.

She could charge a flat fee, pick her crowd limit do it over a three day weekend and it could be a pilgramige of sorts from ALL walks of the nation.
