My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Podcast with Laurie Mika

Here's Laurie talking to Melissa Manley, on the left,
at Art Unraveled in Phoenix last August.

It seems like I've known Laurie Mika forever, even though we actually first met in person just this past August. She contributed to my second book, New Techniques for Wearable Art back when she was working with fabric, and since then has written her own very fabulous book, Mixed Media Mosaics. I love her enthusiasm and generosity and really like her description of straddling the two worlds of traditional polymer clay and traditional mosaic.

I LOVED this podcast! You always ask great questions. What a sweetie and so inspiring!

Now I am madly trying to figure out how to take a class with her - just what I need: another craft to learn and stuff to buy! :D

Call her again soon, k?

Anhelo, I've sent a ticket to libsyn, my hosts--I can't get any of the podcasts to stream this morning. Sorry about this--it's not our fault here: the error message says it can't connect to libsyn. So, so sorry for the inconvenience. You should still be able to listen through iTunes (Notes from the Voodoo Lounge)--I hope.

I meant to add: Thanks, Anhelo, for bringing this to my attention. I wouldn't know these things unless y'all point them out to me. XO

Ricë, terrific interview with Laurie. You nailed it when you said her COLOR grabbed you. That is exactly what had me smitten when I first saw her work. She is fearless with color and pattern and such a generous soul. Loved hearing both of your voices sounding exactly like I remember. It was like eaves dropping on two interesting people at the next table without fear of getting caught :)
