My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Copyright. Oh, My.

So over at CreateMixedMedia.com, I tackle the subject of copyright. Oh, not in any legal, technical, here-are-your-answers way. But, in truth, here ARE your answers. Maybe we'll provoke a discussion. Part I is up today; I'll try to remind you when Part II goes up on Wednesday.

Interesting. This is something I think about every time I have to go thru porn magazines instead of paying a nude model to draw erotica and illustrate. Some of my illustrations are drawings of models that got paid and photographers who own copyrights of the images. Then I get to put those illustrations in books I get paid for. Although, honestly, when I'm drawing those bodies, I feel like I'm giving them a better purpose than just posing for someone who will masturbate once and throw them away. I make sure my illustrations are consumed by people with more artistic sensibility than just curious about porn, that by picking what kind of texts or writers I collaborate with. Although I guess we all work for the same industry, but that's another topic.

Can't wait for part II.

So, I did read part II. And apart from feeling alright for using porn photos for an artistic purpose, I do a bit responsible for breaking "the law". I guess I can always undress myself to illustrate erotica, that's definitely going to allow me to get on a next level and charge more (hopefully).
