Just because that title makes me laugh like a goober, thinking about, "Beans, beans, the musical fruit. . . ."
No, these are actual drawers, those drawers I've been altering to store embroidery floss, remember? And I posted on Facebook that I couldn't load them with floss because we had this game with them? Well, Clarice didn't want to be in this video--she's in the background, deciding whether or not it's too hot to race around madly--so it's just me and the drawers. Musical drawers, which are nothing like musical chairs.
The reason I love this so much is that it just proves the point I'm always trying to make: creativity is in you. It's everywhere. It's how you look at stuff and what you carry in your head. Something catches your interest, you follow it. What would happen if you did this? Or what about this? How could you use it? What might someone else do with it?
A kid would have picked up on this right away. An adult, maybe not. I'm mostly kid--very little about me is mature except my physical self. Things capture my imagination, and I hope that by sharing some of that, you'll allow things to capture yours, too.
Go. Explore something. Report back! XO

Thank you for the first laugh of my day. :)
I love that you not only did it, but you filmed it. I wanted to be on the other end using the hemmeasurer (what do you call them?) to have a duet.
Hey they look amazing. I wonder what the sound will be like after they are full of floss.
I was wondering the same thing, Zom! Will blue floss sound different than green floss? What if you partially fill some and leave some empty? It would be like playing water glasses.
They remind me of the bamboo windchimes. Different woods would result in different sounds.(This is all scientific, but it is the density of the wood and the amount of air pockets.) So, if you really wanted to get crazy, pick up some cherry, mahogany, ..... and have fun!!!
I DOES remind me of a glass harmonica! I forgot to say that--and I ADORE those.
Zom, Kathy: it will sound boring. Old and tired and boring, because it will have given up its brief life in music and settled into its responsibilities in the world and have become staid and proper and businesslike. But! In the nighttime, in the quiet, it will remember the music.
Aw, man. I just made myself sad and stuff.
No, it will play music while you're sleeping, because that's what things do while we're sleeping. They live their other lives. When my kids were little I had them convinced that the Barbies and stuffed animals had parties while they slept. Once in a while they would wake up and find toys in odd places -- evidence of a party interrupted. Watch for floss in the bathroom. Of course, you could blame Clarice....
Kathy, I love that you moved the dolls around while the kids were asleep. (It was you, wasn't it?)
Who, me??? I'll never tell. By the way, I "liked" your page on FB today. Maybe by tomorrow (or is it today?) we'll be friends. I love this community we have.
What? You mean stuffed animals *don't* play at night? Tell me it ain't so!
I still love running my hand or a stick along chain link fences (or any fence) - Never grow up!!!! Why won't my body co-operate!
that was a lot of fun and obviously you have skills with drum sticks :-)
I love these, and they are far more enjoyable as musical drawers then musical fruit!! ahahhahaha
