Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Podcast with--OMG!--Alexandra Jacopetti Hart

Does the name sound familiar? Are you scratching your head and going, "Alexandra Hart? Jacopetti? Wait! I know that name!" If, like me, you're a fan of the 1974 bestseller Native Funk and Flash, you know her as the author that changed the way we looked at "the counter culture" and fashion. Omigod, I loved this book! I still love it: whenever I hit a dry patch and can't think what I want to do next, I pull it off the shelf (if it's there and not on my desk, which is where it is now--see?)
(And here's the photo I sent Alexandra when I got in touch with her:
Yeah, I'm a fan.

Check out these photos from the book. Cool, huh?

So maybe you can imagine what a thrill it was for me to talk to her. And the coolest thing ever--an email exchange we had sparked an idea for her--she'll tell you about that new project, too.

If you'd like to order a signed copy of the book from her, send me an email. I'll forward them to her. That way we can keep her email address from floating around out there collecting spam. So how do they say it in real estate? "Serious inquiries only, please"? I think that's it.

Here are a few photos Alexandra sent of her recent wardrobe adventures. I love these!

And my favorite:
And here's the podcast. I'm sure Alexandra would love comments from any other Funk & Flash fans, and I'll be sure they reach her~~

Enjoy!

Good job Ricë!
I bought my copy of Native Funk & Flash at a chain bookstore in a Texas shopping mall in 1975, and proceeded to spend the next two tortuous years of high school embroidering my jeans. Saved my life, it did.
My Whole Earth Catalog and Cat Stevens albums are long gone, but Native Funk & Flash still has pride of place on the studio bookshelf. I can't wait to hear what Alexandra has been up to lo these [sigh] many years.

Thank you for this podcast. I really enjoyed listening. It was too much to hope for that my library might have a copy.

Totally loving this podcast - thanks for posting this interview with a very inspiring woman. This is the first time I heard about Native Fund & Flash and it sounds wonderful. Now is a great time to be an older woman - we have a world of infinite possibilities opening to us.

Oh my gosh! I haven't seen this book for years!! My dear friend had a copy and we poured over it again and again for inspiration! What wonderful memories, I'm calling her to see if she still has her copy of the book!
