Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

People Are Just Really Nice #1: Tracie Lampe

Like everyone else, I sometimes forget how completely wonderful most people are. Not all people mind you, but most of the ones I know. Maybe I'm just lucky that way, or maybe it's true that people are just way nicer than we sometimes give them credit for.

I know the nicest people, people who let me call them up and ask nosy questions, people who remind me of all the stuff I've forgotten but still need to know, people who invite me to play and send me fabulous surprises. You've seen some of those here lately. This amazing beauty from Jeanie Thorn. And this marvelous gift from Victoria Rose Martin.

Now let me say right here that none of these people, none, has ever said, "Gee, I'd like to send you something so you'll give me some free publicity." Never. Because, frankly, most of them don't need any help from me. They have their own world and tons of fans already.  So, no--they're not asking for links or tweets or blog posts. They're just nice people.

So I wanted to share some of these really feel-good surprises with you, starting with Tracie~~

I met Tracie Lampe at Art Fiber Fest in Portland. At least I think that's where we met. We may have "met" before then, but we got to hang out there, so that's what I *remember,* which is a HUGE BIG deal all by itself, even a partial remembering. And let me just say: she is a hoot. We kind of played hooky one day and went to a garage sale and bought a giant thumb. Yeah, you kind of had to have been there.

No, no drugs were involved.

Here's a little video I did about her book, Upcycled Accessories, for CreateMixedMedia.com (where, by the way, you can see a bunch more of these for most of the North Light Mixed Media books that have come out in the last couple years. I'm behind, though, so the newest ones aren't up there yet--they will be soon, though):

You can see more of Tracie's cool green stuff in her Etsy shop. But plastic isn't all she uses. No! She also makes fabulous fiber creations--check them out here.

So imagine my delight when a box arrived in the mail last week and in it was this hat, made just for me. I LOVE this hat, and I cannot wait for it to be cold enough to wear it (it's so warm and toasty I was fanning myself while we were taking photographs).
 Cute!
 Comfortable!
Super toasty!

You can find your own marvelous mohawk in Tracie's shop. Click around, because there are more here in various color combinations. Plus she can do custom 'hawks.

Thank you, Tracie, you're fabulous! XO

That hat is awesome! It looks great on you, too.

I think I might have to pick up a few. It would be fun to have a whole family with MoHawk hats.

label: book review, mini-rant.

How do you like that as a label, mini-rant? haha.

Actually what about a 'people are really nice' label, and a 'people are scary' label? A nice dichotomy.
