My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Art Unraveled: Teachers Coloring Outside the Lines

On Saturday night, I was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the auction event that raises money for AU scholarships for next year. Teachers signed up to participate, and they were given a bunch of crap junk fabulous art supplies! with which to make something amazing. And, oh, honeys, did they ever. "Amazing" can't even begin to describe the stuff artwork we auctioned off!

They picked out their supplies and sat at long tables and worked while people watched them and I walked around and asked nosy questions and stuck a microphone in their faces. People "reported" them to me if it seemed they were too comfortable with what they were doing, and I'd go harass them up close. Then they had to walk their piece down the runway and explain what they'd done. They were great sports--all this after a long day of teaching.

The great news? It raised right at $900 that will pay for workshops for someone (or a couple of someones) next year at AU.

You can see the video over at CreateMixedMedia.com, but because it's funny (and because I've been working on it all morning, cutting and cutting and cutting, and would like to have something to show for all the time I spent), I'm putting it here, too. Sorry the quality isn't better, but it was a big room and noisy--I think you can hear it well enough to see why we were all laughing. If not, you might want to wait and watch it after you've had a glass of wine, which is the way most of the people were watching it live. A free drink ticket = always a good thing for an auction audience!

Haha.....GREAT! Even though i couldnt make out some of the audio, I laughed out loud, smilng the whole time just because you all seemed to be having such a good time! Infectious! I just loved Earl's appearance! You know it already, I'm sure....but you have a great guy there. Seems so easy going and accommodating . I've been married to my guy for 30 years this August 23rd and he's the type of guy who would also be game for some shenanigans at any given moment. Makes life interesting. I think it's so great you two get to have so much fun together. Really makes me want to go to an art retreat, have some fun, make stuff, drink wine, stay up late and laugh a lot! I can't wait until I get your latest book in the mail....I've had it pre ordered for months....glad you are home safe....the pics you posted of your work area....I can totally relate. That's how I work. I have "layers". Its a little overwhelming, but I've never been one of those neat and tidy studio types. Have fun. Thanks for sharing!

Michael only got to be the auctioneer, I'll have you know: *I* got to be the MC. If you know Michael, of course, you know he stole the show nevertheless. . . .
