Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Rain!

Oh, my little chickadees, unless you live in the huge and very dry state of Texas, you cannot IMAGINE how happy we all are at this moment, here in Midland, where we are getting the first measurable rainfall in almost a year. It's been over 300 days, and it's so very, very dry. And then--then!--tonight it clouded up and, as we drove around the Loop to go to the store, it sprinkled. And then, as we drove farther around the Loop, the dust kicked up where all the vegetation had been burned away in this spring's wildfires. By the time we got to the store, our car was splattered with mud: sprinkles + dust = mud.

And now it's raining for reals. Know how I know? Because the vent is leaking from when they put on the metal roof: they've been out every time it's rained, but it's been so long I'd forgotten until The EGE pointed up and said, "Uh-oh."

But guess what? I don't care nearly as much as I did last time. Because, people, IT'S RAINING!

Wow I had no idea it was that dry in Texas right now. I'm up in Vancouver Canada, and we have had so much rain this year, it has felt like one long and wet winter. Only about three weeks of sunshine this entire summer. Wish I could just push the clouds down you way for a bit. It looks so easy looking at a satellite map. Enjoy the rain! I hope it is a sign of the drought breaking.

I saw the cloud heading toward Midland on the map yesterday. It even identified Midland! But I was afraid it was another Big Tease. I hope it has started back up again. I feel guilty every time I look at my now overflowing rain barrels.

Oh, could we use some of that in Houston! They're about to ban all watering here.... We're praying for a big ole hurricane at this point.

I know that feeling, we suffered a drought for ten years and then it broke this year with major flooding. It's rained nearly all of winter which is unusual, but no-one's complaining.
