Here's a quick couple of embellishments. This first is a kind of toss-off: a large shirt that isn't really my style but that I couldn't resist: long enough to wear over leggings, colorful, and with bling! It had some beads and sequins, but the Mandarin collar wasn't going to work for me, so I folded it down and added more beads.
Here's a shot before--you can see the collar:
And here's after:
Here's that total deer-in-the-headlights look I told you about: it was so bright out there that I kept my eyes closed until he said, "Ready" and then opened them wide and tried not to squint. I hate these posed photos--I could crop them all, but that's cheating.
Here's what I did to the collar.
Then there's this, my current favorite garment ever. It's Bryn Walker, and it's soft and faded. I didn't do anything to it--I'm really liking chambray and denim colors. I know: yikes!
I hatehatehate when the facing on a jacket is loose and flops out and shows when the jacket's not buttoned. I used some Misty Fuse to hold it in place, but that won't last through lots of launderings, so I added beads. I was going to stitch, since it's really casual, but for the life of me, I could NOT match floss to this color. Next to blue, it looks purple. Next to purple, blue. There wasn't a single color of floss that worked with it. These multi-colored beads, though, were perfect. And they were already in my house--always a bonus!
I squinted on this one. My god, what dorky posed photos. We'll never do that again. And you wonder why I'm always wearing shades--this is the only day in FOREVER I went outdoors without them (did you know you have to have your eyes checked for melanoma, too? Wear those shades!)
I'll probably wear this unbuttoned over a tank or a t-shirt. If it had pockets, it would be The Perfect Garment. No, I don't think I'll add them--I've got enough projects in line to last me through the winter, and Trish gave me more stuff this week (she offers me stuff she's going to bag up and take for donation after it's been in the shop for a couple of months). For some odd reason, beading is soothing to me. I don't know why--I fight with the thread, and the beads slither around the bowl, and some are bound to come off sooner or later (although, you know, I have that first journal skirt with the beaded yoke in the back, and I swear it's never lost a single bead. The skirt itself has many layers of patches over almost all of it, but the beading has held up magnificently).
If you've got things you're altering, please give us a link--I'd LOVE to see photos!

Sometimes I make my own floss colors by mixing several strands of various colors.
Yeah! to the periwinkle colored shirt. I love it, and it's one of my (many!) favorite colors.
xx,

Blue??!!! When did this love affair start? Isn't it strange when you suddenly feel like wearing a different colour? Mine seemed to change every 5 years or so.
Sorry you don't like the photos. You look great in them. Love the tops and your alterations too. They'd be appreciated in my Eco-Garments class.
You seem to be looking at colors which are nicely accented by and nearly opposite your favorite orange.
Good stuff!
I don't think you're squinting badly at all in that photo! I think it's a great shot. When you described sewing the facing down with seed beads I couldn't imagine it but when I scrolled down I realised I'd been trying to envisage it in completely the wrong way - it looks great. I may have to try something like that myself :)

I've just been on a white charity shopping spree ready to do some dyeing. I need to go to the chemists to get some mordant for the natural dye bath, though. Hopefully there will be some results up pretty soon. :)
I'm not a fan of the Mandarin collar either. My neck is too short. Do the beads hold the collar down or did you sew it down?
You look marvelous darlin'. Both shirts are very flattering.
Thanks! Zom, I started out working on denim and chambray--the whole "Native Funk & Flash" thang. So I love stuff that looks like that. Just plain blue stuff, though? Eh. Yes, Suella, I saw that and thought, huh--at least they'll all blend!
omg Ricë I LOVE the beading on the blue shirt! It gives me so many ideas... great, just what I need.
What kind of thread did you use to sew on the beads? I know you said they will fall off eventually, but I'm wondering what would be strong enough to stay on for a while... around the bottom of skirt... with your cool big and small beading design... LOVE IT.
wow!!!! i have LOVED my visit to your blog! your altered clothes are wonderful. to say you have been an inspiration is an understatement! i am now wondering if i can do the altering thing....i have problem with swollen arms due to lymphedema issues and have trouble finding shirts to fit...maybe i can make some changes to my many unwearable shirts instead of wearing the same ones all the time. :) thank you so much!!! looking forward to the podcasts. :)
