My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

That Silk Thing

I don't know what this is, exactly. It's a silk thing I found at one of the locations of My Sister's Closet in Phoenix, and I think it's a camisole meant to be worn as outerwear. Why? Because the Rebecca Taylor website has only one item for lingerie, and that was underwear, as in "p-a-n-t-i-e-s." A word I avoid, esp. online, as who knows who's googling. This is the closest I could find in the current collection.

I'd never heard of Rebecca Taylor, and why would I have? It's not exactly my style. But something about this:
intrigued me, and I bought it. And then checked to see if it was supposed to be underwear--not that it matters, but I was curious. And saw the price for the closest one: $245. Yikes. For this? I cannot for the life of me see what would make it worth $245:

You can see that it had a few beads and sequins, but not many. You either need a lot or none, you know? I always go for "more," of course.

I think I paid $9.99. I figured if I couldn't make it cooler, I could always use the silk. I have a ton of silk stuff I've gotten cheap and keep in a bin for some future project.

The first thing I did was to remove the adjustable strap hardware stuff and stitch the straps in place in back and then tack down--with beads--those dumb bow-like parts on the shoulders.  And then I mended a a place on one side, with beads, and added more beads to the lace:
Here's what it looks like on:
This photo--and the others I'll show later--is funny: we were in the backyard, and it was too bright and I didn't have on my sunglasses, so I shut my eyes until he said, "OK," and then opened them and tried not to squint when he took the photo. I know to put on the shades but was in a hurry. I look like a deer caught in the headlights.
 Ties on the sides.
I may shorten the straps--I think it hangs too low, but I may wear it first to see.

The big problem with this: it has to be worn over something, but WHAT COLOR? This thing, this cami or whatever-it-is, is the oddest color. It's not brown, but it's not plum, either. It's not maroon, and it's not purple. I have no idea WHAT color it is. It would look OK with rose, but I don't own anything rose--I don't like muted colors. It doesn't work with hot pink or brown or purple. Gack. I'm going to have to carry it around and see what it doesn't fight with, is what I think will have to happen. I think it's "prune," and isn't that just delightful?

Stay tuned--there's more~~

I think it would look awesome over lime or olive green.

bingo
I was offering up LIME as well.
I wear lime with most every color in my closet... it just seems to match any color, nearly.

I took it over to the consignment store I love, and we looked at it with all kinds of colors. It looks good with peachy salmony colors, any off-green--lime, muted spring green, olive, deep acid-y green. Also with pale lilac. Rose. Goldish colors. I think I'll go with the deeper greens and the salmon-y-ish, since I have tanks that color already. I don't do dusty colors or would try the others. Even thinking of dusty colors makes my teeth hurt. Very odd.

Gee, it is quite interesting. I immediately thought the straps were a bit long too.

I am so happy to read one of your clothing posts.

Would it work with ague tones? The brown/plum description made me thing aqua...

What an interesting little "thingy." I agree with Zom. Straps are too long—it appears as if the straps are hanging onto your body for dear life, afraid of slipping away. LOL But I do like the idea of it worn over aqua.
