My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Today's Inspiration

When we were in Portland, we wandered into Anthropologie, one of those stores where I would never actually buy anything, not just because it's way overpriced and because everyone else is going to be wearing the exact same thing, but--even more--because it's one of those places where you see things that are just *almost* totally cool, but they just miss it. I see stuff in there and smack my forehead and think, "Why did they do it that way? Why didn't they just go ahead and _______?" I don't like their colors, and the fabrics are often scratchy or artificial. I do get ideas, though.

Here's one of those things. It's the closest to being Totally Cool I've seen in Anthropologie yet, but it wasn't perfect. I'm not sure, but I suspect polyester might have been involved. it felt kind of creepy.

It's also one of those things that I try on and The EGE says, "Looks great. You could make one." Now, what he means is, "It looks great on you, but you could make one that would look a lot better." (If, on the other hand, he says, "Wow," then that means I should just go ahead and buy it.)

I couldn't find a huge, soft, 100% cotton sweatshirt, and here in West Texas, until this morning (brrrrrr!), it's been still way too hot for sweatshirts, anyway. I wanted something I could experiment on (on which. . .), so I wasn't about to pay very much. Who knows whether my idea is going to work out or not? So I sucked it up and went to The Dreaded Wal-Mart and bought this huge cotton shirt for less than $10:
Big thanks to my assistant here,
who was on his way out to work in the yard.
The shirt was way too big for me to show it by myself.

So if this goes well, I'll show in-progress photos. If it doesn't, we'll just pretend we never had this conversation, OK?

Wish me luck~~XO

I have 3 new sweatshirts I bought for $3 each (at Walgreens) and I have been wanting to cut them up....can't wait to see what you do. Maybe it will give me the inspiration to finally get the scissors and start cutting them. Have fun!
