My Photo
Midland, Texas, United States
My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

A Gift from Lorri Scott

If you've been to Art Unraveled or Art Is Petaluma, perhaps you've seen Lorri's delicious creations--refashioned silk and linen, dyed and embellished. She doesn't have any of that on her website, but she has her other work, which is fabulous, as well. One of her finds included a tulle underskirt, and she dyed it for me and sent it to me. It arrived yesterday, and I can't wait to figure out how to add a waistband so I can wear it. In the meantime, Alex is modeling it for me (and Clarice is playing underneath it, intrigued by the rustling = mice! Although I don't know that she's ever seen a mouse. Maybe, though--she had a rough little life before she got dumped here at 6 weeks.)
It's too big around for me, too, but elastic will fix that. And a big snap, I think.
Alex and I have been in the studio all morning, so I'm going to have more to show you later when I can get it all sorted out and uploaded. I've had a blast the last couple of days--I wish you all (meaning: "all y'all," as opposed to "you all" used in what we think of as The Long Version of Y'all) could be here, working on your stuff alongside me (it would be a reallyreallyreally BIG studio), with mannikins and models and a TON of pins. Until we can make that happen, though, Alex is helping me out so I can share more of what I'm doing.

I've been figuring out how to work some studio time into the work day. Plus, since my constant nagging finally got the temperature adjusted at Starbucks, we've been spending more time there in the evenings before dinner. I can get a TON of stitching and cutting and stuff done there, plus I sometimes get feedback from patrons and baristas, which is cool.

Friday afternoon is my afternoon off, though. Well, not really. It's my afternoon to go to BJ's (consignment) and see what's new, check out any estate sales that look promising, maybe go by The Cat's Meow (vintage and antique) or the one semi-decent (meaning: it sometimes has things that inspire me) hip boutique. So that means I've got to eat breakfast (it's only 11:30; I've been busy!) and walk and stuff and all that. Come back--I'll try to get another post up as soon as I can because I LOVE the latest project and think you will, too. In the meantime: don't throw away anything! Put it in the pile--you may be inspired. If not, THEN you can go donate it.

XO
