So here's one of the two hideous dresses I mentioned yesterday:
Remember, it will fit me better than it does Alex. Still--pretty horrid.
I want to slap the designer who thought this was a good idea. These are all cheap plastic--nothing worth salvaging, I don't think. Maybe the "rhinestones," but I'm not sure.
This ruffle-ish edge is the silk lining fabric. Sounds like a good idea, but the execution is horrid.
And what's up with this bodice detail? They've twisted and tacked the front part, and I have no idea if I can make this work. There's a good reason these 1) weren't sold in the first place and 2) left at the consignment shop and then 3) given to me to bring home.
I have two of them, and they're brand new, with tags, and were originally $199 each. That's one hundred ninety-nine dollars. Yep, amazing to me, too.
I'm taking off the frightening cheap sequins and beads, and then I'm washing them. Then one will be altered for a tunic with jeans (if it looks any better on me than it does on Alex, which it may not), and the other will become yardage. Or, if it's as I really suspect, both will become yardage. Luscious velvet yardage--the fabric is really nice, well worth salvaging.
Wish me luck!

LOL!!! Oh my! What were they thinking? I really don't know what to say about the jewels. The silk and velvet on the other hand, are gorgeous! I look forward to seeing how they are transformed.
See? SEE?! Amazing. I'm guessing it was supposed to be Holiday-Esque, but STILL. It was like they had these bags of horrid cheap plastic beads and sequins and wanted to see if they could make people buy them.
It is an old lady dress, in the worst sense of the word. I am excited to see it transformed into something funky and fun.
Seriously? Yeah, a Project Runway disaster!

And this was really made by a professional with the intent for it to be sold in a regular retail market??? Good luck with it!!
I scrounge through Goodwill for yardage, too!
Wow, a dress that makes Alex look fat. Consider my mind blown.
Come see what I am doing with a velvet thing recently acquired. Wish I were down there, I would help you refashion them.
Have you priced this quality velvet lately. I think yardage is the way to go. (and yes, they probably did have a bin o crap and wanted to use it, probably said, hey if we can get 2 people to pay full price we've covered our cost, any other money we make is gravy...)

I have a theory that there is a factory somewhere in the world called the Ugly Stick Factory. Designers are chosen based on how awful their portfolios are, and anyone who designs anything tasteful or beautiful is immediately fired, drawn, and quartered.
This dress must be some of their finest work. I can't wait to see what you make of it.
