You know how I love wearable art, right? Fabulous clothing and jewelry that you can actually *wear,* rather than just put in a book or hang on the wall. But what I've realized in thinking about this stuff for years and years and years is that it's not just wearable art that I love; it's meaningful wearable art. It needs to have some special meaning for the wearer. It's about amulets and talismans, and that just happens to be the title of Robert Dancik's book: Amulets and Talismans (North Light Books, 2009)
When I talked to him for the profile in Belle Armoire Jewelry last summer, I asked him about these, but I knew I wanted to ask more. So we finally scheduled some time, and here's our conversation:

Although I have been collecting jewelry for decades and have drawers full, every day I am usually seen wearing a black and white bracelet made from PVC pipe and lined with silver. My favorite Robert Dancik creation!
Oh Rice,
Thanks so much for this interview. My questions about creating were answered with this one. I couldn't put a word to what I wanted to do with the things I have; but I want to do Talismans. My mind and heart has been split open. And, he even gave me fantastic ideas for how I'm going to do this. His book is on my personal gift list.
Thanks so much for your time in doing these videos.

Thank you for the podcasts. I listen to each one & learn so much!
I'd love to hear you interview these artists (if you're looking for suggestions): Jill Mayberg, Sarah Ahern, DJ Pettitt.

Thank you so much for listening--I'm glad this one spoke to you!
I only got a little ways into this one Rice. The longer he talked just the more i felt he was so full of himself. And talked down to me. Just my impression and like i said i only got a few minutes in before i had enough.
Sorry it didn't work for you. You'll probably like next week's better~~XO
I was inspired to put tiny river stones that I scraped out of the water near Niagara Falls in bezel with ice resin. I am gifting this to my nephew. When I visit him, we like to walk together by the Falls. Had I not listened to this podcast, I wouldn't have thought of this!!
Thanks Rice & Robert!
What a terrific podcast! Gracias for all your hard work. XO
Wonderful interview. I could have listened for longer. I'm definitely going to make myself an amulet. It's what I need.
