My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world because I get to call up artists and ask them nosy questions and then write about them. I also stitch, podcast, blog, and then, in my spare time, do it all some more.

Finished Funky Shirt

At least I think it's finished. Finished for now, anyway--I'm ready to move on to something else.

So here was the shirt in the beginning (this is the back):
Finished stitching the front appliqué:

I added another layer of hem in the back. If I decide I hate this, I can easily cut it off:
Cut this off an Old Navy t-shirt, 79¢ at Goodwill. Yes, it's wonkily-positioned on purpose:
This button was on here, sewn to the seam, when I bought it:
And here's the finished top:

Now I need to do something that's easier on the fingers--they're not really very happy with me lately, so I need some easy stitching through loosely-woven fabric. Let's go see what we can find in the Bin o' Projects~~

I vote for the extra hem. It ties all the colors together...at least for me. As my MIL always said, "You'll know what's right." Now go rest your fingers.

I really like the extra hem. As Barbara said, it ties it all together. It also make it look more designer-like. Try using larger needles like sashiko or chenille needles. They are easier on the hands.

Thanks a bunch! The problem is pushing the needle through the fabric, and tightly-woven fabric doesn't want to make way for larger needles. My fingers are a mess right now--from dyeing (even though I wear gloves), from painting (I got some latex paint on them) from generally dry weather, and then the joints. Plus all the holes and scratches where I jab myself with the needle. Nope, I canNOT wear a thimble, alas. If I put it on one finger, I use a different one.

Love that top.. colors and design placement all of it. You're lucky your Goodwill sells shirts for that price .79. Here in SoCal the Goodwill gets $6 and $7 for a tee shirt. And its washed so many times its frosted and sooo out of shape. The whole dam place looks more like Target than Target. I kick my self everytime I walk out...wondering why I went in the first place

This is really wonderful. So creative. What a great way to use up old shirts. Sew on!

This is fantastic! I love the way it turned out. Heck, I loved it before you'd finished all of the top stitching.
