My name rhymes with "Lisa," I live in Midland, Texas, because it's warm and the mortgage is cheap, and of course this is my natural hair color. Of course! The EGE--The Ever-Gorgeous Earl--is my husband of 35 years. I have the best job in the world: I call up artists and ask them a bunch of nosy questions and then write about them. Or podcast them, if we're going to let "podcast" be a transitive verb. I write, I blog, I podcast, I stitch. In my spare time, I do it all some more.

The Fabulous (& Hilarious) Mary Beth Shaw Reports on CHA

I would talk to Mary Beth Shaw about pretty much anything: art, life, swimming, dachshunds, barbecue. And I don't even like barbecue. But Mary Beth can make anything interesting, and I wanted to hear her take on CHA, the annual Craft and Hobby Association's trade show, held in January in Anaheim, right next door to Disneyland. I know Disneyland is supposed to be passé, the second-class cousin to DisneyWorld, but I have fond memories of the former from when I went to junior high in Ventura, 60 miles to the north, and they took a bus full of us to Disneyland every time we made the A/B honor roll. Since the stuff we were doing in the 7th grade was the same stuff I had done in the 6th grade in Ponca City, Oklahoma, I got to go to Disneyland kind of a lot, which is way fun when you're 12 and all the rides are paid for. Yowza.

Anyway, anyway, anyway. This is about CHA, not about Disneyland. And as always, Mary Beth is a hoot. Even if you have no desire to attend CHA, you'll have fun listening to her talk about being there. And meeting Leeza Gibbons, never mind that neither of us is really completely sure who Leeza Gibbons actually is (but I did look up her name so I could spell it, so I know she's Someone Famous).

Go here to see Mary Beth's work, here to read her blog, here to see Stencil Girl products,  and here to order her book, Flavor for Mixed Media. Click on the little player below to listen to our conversation.

I'm with you, Rice. I would go nuts walking through all that wonderful stuff and not being able to buy one little thing. But I hope you get to make the trip next year...and take those subversive pictures! LOL

is this the podcast with the comments about chocolate? I can't listen right now because I'm at work and streaming anything is a big no-no (sigh) but I listened to a few of the latest podcasts a week ago or so. okay, I'm rambling terribly - what I'm getting at is that I'd like to send you some chocolate from our local factory Theo's (and have them send it to you so you needn't worry some crazy stranger is sending you food, you know?) -- do you have a business PO box or something?

sharing the love of chocolate from Seattle! :)

I think it was Christy Friesen who talked about chocolate--she's tasting chocolate from all over the world as she travels to teach. Send me an email at voodoocafe at suddenlink dot net, and I'll send you my address--I'm (gee) more than happy to taste chocolate! XO
